The Sensory Room is a unique learning environment which encourages interaction, exploration and communication. It can be adapted to the topics we use in nursery and is a wonderful setting for story telling.
We use equipment such as a bubble tube, fibre optics, projectors, mirror balls, sound/light toys and ultra-violet black lights to stimulate the children’s senses and imagination. The equipment is very rewarding to use – bigger, brighter and ‘larger than life’ in order to gain children’s attention and be absorbing.
The calm, relaxing atmosphere of the Sensory Room helps children to feel safe, it can be used to promote relaxation and reduce any stress or aggression which a child may be experiencing. For children with additional needs the Sensory Room is used on a regular basis to support their individual targets and enhance their learning.
